"Overnight snowfalls made a pleasant scene before me on this morning in the Jagungal Wilderness. With its red door, this hut stood out against the surrounding area and something I have been wanting to capture for a while. Spending time alone around this hut was a great opportunity to take in both the natural history and more recent human heritage of this hut and local area." - Scott
Horse Camp Hut is understood to have been constructed within the period 1933-1939 as a shelter for stockmen working with the Clarke brothers' snow lease. The hut was modified by the Snowy Mountains Authority (SMA) circa 1945-1951, as a base for horseback mountain teams undertaking survey work for planning of the early Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Schemes at Guthega, Island Bend and Windy Creek. The hut was substantially rebuilt in 2016 by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).
