"With stormy conditions and good cloud cover, I headed to Merewether Baths hoping for a moody sunset. The stormy atmosphere gave way for something a little softer with the pastel colours in the sky. Still, it was great conditions to capture the Merewether Baths in their ocean setting." - Scott

The Merewether Ocean Baths were built during the great depression. They were completed in 1935 by unemployed labourers through a depression-relief scheme. The baths consist of two large rectangular pools with an overall dimension of 100 metres x 90 metres. They are the largest ocean baths in the state of New South Wales. Located just three kilometres from the Newcastle city centre, the baths have a long history as a popular swimming spot in Newcastle.
