ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH

Finke River, Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park, Northern Territory, Australia.

A calm morning in the outback had me all alone contemplating the sheer timescale of the landscape before me. Scientists estimate the Finke River to be between 300 and 400 million years old. It is considered one of the oldest, if not the oldest, continuously flowing river systems on earth. The Finke was already flowing when Australia was part of the supercontinent Gondwana and before the rise of dinosaurs. The river existed before the MacDonnell Ranges themselves were uplifted (roughly 300–400 million years ago), meaning it is an "antecedent" river that maintained its course while the mountains rose around it. To provide some appreciation for this age, the river has been in existence hundreds of millions of years before flowering plants evolved, making it much older than modern flora. Contemplating that while waiting for the sun to rise was a great way to start the day.

ACRYLIC BLOCKS

ACRYLIC BLOCKS

Our acrylic blocks give the photo a three dimensional look. They are perfect for desks, bookshelves, mantlepieces, bed side tables - any horizontal surface.

The photo is printed on professional grade metallic photographic paper, using archival inks. It is then mounted on the back of an acrylic (plexiglass) block. It is finished with diamond polishing, buffing and final hand polish.

They are free standing, so no hanging system is required. These are a very popular option for gifts, farewell presents or if you need a small lightweight option to travel with. Acrylic blocks come in a box ready to gift.
