Mount Kosciuszko, Kosciuszko National Park, New South Wales, Australia.
The temperature was well below zero, there wasn't a breath of wind and darkness was falling. No other human was in sight as I looked out to the summit of Australia’s highest mountain, Mount Kosciuszko, illuminated in the distance. I was struck by the remoteness and isolation. The frozen waters of the creek below flowed into the distance. Photographing sunrises and sunsets in the winter can be a lonely and isolating experience. This was definitely one of those moments."
The sunset had been uninteresting, yet as it got darker the landscape became illuminated by the afterglow of the now disappeared sun. It was these colours of winter I was determined to capture. Returning to my tent, I made dinner for the night reflecting that despite the isolation, just how awesome it is to be able to experience such moments. It is great to then come home and share the experience with others through photographs like this.
