"Mount Feathertop is considered the jewel in the crown of the Victorian Alps, it's certainly the states' most commanding peak. I was camped out near Federation Hut in mid winter to capture Feathertop's summit. On this morning, after overnight snowfalls I woke to the area covered in snow. It was a magical scene. Having visited the original hut, but never having photographed that in snow, it was also a little bittersweet." - Scott
The hut pictured in this photo, is a new hut built by Parks Victoria in December 2004 to replace the previous hut burnt in the 2003 bushfires, which devastated this area. The new hut is considered a considerable improvement over the old one. It is well lit, insulated and the wooden floor means it is easy to sweep out. While there is no mezzanine sleeping platform, the benches along the walls of the hut provide a comfortable resting place for those needing to escape from the elements.
