"Throughout the afternoon cloud had been sitting along Rams Head Range meaning the mountain tops weren't visible. Confident the weather would clear, I opted to wait it out and brave the below freezing temperatures. My patience was rewarded, when right on sunset the last remaining cloud lifted and I had the background I wanted to set the scene for this alpine river. The colours of the evening really did set the tone for this cold alpine environment." - Scott
The Thredbo River in the Pilot Wilderness Area is a wild alpine watercourse, carving through snow gum forests and granite, offering a deep sense of isolation and natural beauty, with abundant native and aquatic life. With occasional cascades and rapids, it provides stunning scenic views of and clear alpine fed flows. The river here is wild and pristine, fed by snowmelt, strong in winter and spring and dramatically quieter later in the year.
