This wall art print featuring Mount Kate House at Cradle Mountain offers a glimpse into the history of the area, ideal for those intrigued by the early pioneers' stories. The atmospheric elements captured in the scene, morning fog and approaching rain, imbue Mount Kate House with a sense of drama, creating a moody yet striking ambiance that will elevate any interior space.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH.
Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania, Australia.
"It had been a foggy and rainy morning as I sought to photograph Cradle Mountain at sunrise in its various moods. As I waited at Mount Kate House the weather eventually cleared a little. The result, a unique view all the way through to the peak of Cradle Mountain." - Scott
This hut, now owned by the Parks and Wildlife Service, serves as a connection to the early pioneers of the area, particularly Gustav and Kate Weindorfer. In 1910 Gustav, Kate and friends Ronald Smith and Walter Black climbed Cradle Mountain - Kate becoming the first white woman to climb Cradle Mountain. As they rested on the summit Gustav Weindorfer proclaimed "This must be a national park for the people for all time. It is magnificent, and people must know about it and enjoy it." Gustav believed that by making the area accessible to visitors his vision would be realised. Gustav campaigned tirelessly to see the Cradle Mountain area reserved. On 16 May 1922, an area of 158,000 acres from Cradle Mountain down to Lake St Clair was proclaimed a scenic reserve and wildlife sanctuary.
