Wallace Hut, Bogong High Plains, Alpine National Park, Victoria, Australia
I captured this photo on my first trip to Wallace Hut. I had spent a few days camping on the Bogong High Plains, and was totally drawn to this old hut and its surrounds. I wanted to capture some of the charm and character I felt about this location and the history of those who had used this hut as a welcome refuge from the elements over the years. Finally, after a few mornings of disappointing sunrises, on this morning the first brief rays of warm sun lit up the area around Wallace's Hut. For me it created the feeling I was trying to capture, a classic alpine hut set amongst magnificent snow gums in the heart of the Victorian High Country. A truly magical place that I have returned to many times since.
Wallace Hut is the oldest known of the Cattlemen's huts still standing in the Victorian High Country. It was built by the Wallace Brothers in 1889 from slabs of snowgum. In the 1930's its woollybutt roof shingles were replaced by the State Electricity Commission (SEC) when it was taken over as a workers' hut. Now it serves as a refuge and slice of human history nestled in the wild Victorian High Country.
Acrylic desk block size: 50cm x 18cm (3cm deep)
Acrylic desk blocks give the photo a three dimensional look and make excellent gifts. They are perfect for desks, bookshelves, and mantelpieces.
Each photo is printed on professional grade metallic photographic paper, using archival inks. It is then mounted on the back of an acrylic (plexiglass) block. It is finished with diamond polishing, buffing and a final hand polish.
Since they are free-standing, no hanging system is required.
