Barron Falls, Barron Gorge National Park, Queensland, Australia
Keeping the camera lens dry for long enough to get a photo was certainly a challenge. A heavy wet season downpour overnight prompted me to head up to Barron Falls, hopeful I would witness plenty of water flowing over the falls. My hunch was right, with a loud roar of water flowing. The rain kept falling, while low cloud and mist ebbed and flowed over the area creating a very wet tropical feel.
Protected within the Barron Gorge National Park, the volume of water seen in this photo only occurs after substantial rainfall during the wet season. For much of the rest of the year, little more than a trickle is evident, due in part to the presence of a weir behind the head of the falls that supplies a hydroelectric power station downstream.
