High Court of Australia & Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia
The High Court building is an imposing structure and in autumn is set against this stunning row of red trees on the edge of Lake Burley Griffin. I had visited the lakeside for a few mornings in a row, braving the below freezing temperatures, only to have the view obscured by fog. On this morning however, it all came together and before sunrise the colours in the sky offset the red colours of the autumn leaves beautifully as you can see here. A great way to start the day in Canberra.
The High Court is the highest court in the Australian judicial system. Located in Canberra, in its own building within the Parliamentary Triangle, the 40 metre tall building is essentially one of concrete and glass. It comprises a number of major functional elements, namely a large public hall, three courtrooms, an administrative wing and Justice's chambers.
