Rams Head Range, Kosciuszko National Park, New South Wales, Australia
I shot this sunset on the first day of spring and the conditions at the time were a total analogy of the end of winter. Only hours earlier, amidst occasional snow flakes, the area was buffeted by winds with low cloud flowing across the mountains obscuring this view. Setting up my tent in the afternoon I was unsure exactly what sunset would bring. By evening however the clouds had cleared and the wind all but gone, revealing a perfectly clear sky and heralding a change of weather system that would bring beautiful sunny weather the following day. After shooting this image and getting back to my campsite, just a short walk away, I enjoyed one of the calmest and most breathtaking evenings of the snow season. With clear skies, my view of some of Australia's highest mountains was illuminated by full moon throughout the night. It was a fantastic way to experience the end of winter.
