Mount Feathertop, Alpine National Park, Victoria, Australia
A snow storm had lasted all night. I woke before sunrise in the dark to venture out. My tent was covered in fresh snow and thick fog had descended across the area. With little visibility I snow shoed along the top of the tree line waiting for the sun to rise. Sunrise wasn't to be. Instead, I was presented with endless snow gums covered in ice. They had been burnt in recent bushfires yet still alive with regrowth emerging below.
Covered in snow and ice, snow gums sum up much about survival at the heights of Australia's alps.
