Sugarloaf Rock, Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park, Western Australia, Australia

Sugarloaf Rock is arguably one of the most impressive seascapes in Western Australia. Located in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, this impressive rock formation dominates the coastline near Cape Naturaliste. Sugarloaf Rock is also a great place for bushwalking and bird watching and it is the only known nesting site in the south west of the red-tailed tropic bird. Conveying the true size of this formation in a photograph can be difficult, but on this sunrise it was all about the stunning light rather than the sheer size of the rock formation. The great sunrise behind me led to brilliant light on the low clouds over the Indian Ocean, creating a dramatic backdrop to the light that was cast on Sugarloaf Rock and its surrounds.
