Snowy River, Kosciuszko National Park, New South Wales, Australia
Having been camped out in the backcountry for a few nights, I woke up this morning to clear skies and brilliant stars and made my way to the Snowy River. At these altitudes in winter, the river gets completely covered in snow and I happily stood on top of the river with a good cover of snow beneath me. As I waited patiently for sunrise, I held little hope of anything spectacular due to the clear skies. As the sun rose on the horizon, amazing light lit up selected parts of the range before me. It is the little surprises like this and witnessing spectacular scenes with no one else around that make the effort of camping out in freezing overnight temperatures and getting up in the dark all worth it.
