SHELTER

Seamans Hut, Kosciuszko National Park, New South Wales, Australia

Camped for the evening just near Seamans Hut with my wife, we enjoyed the cool mountain air. It was a welcome location to appreciate a quiet time overlooking some of Australia's highest mountains.

Seaman's Hut is an alpine hut and memorial in Kosciuszko National Park. It was built following the death of skiers, Laurie Seaman and Evan Hayes who perished in a blizzard on 14 August 1928. Seaman was found on 9 September, very near to the current hut site, where he had waited for Hayes. Hayes body was found above Lake Cootapatamba, lying on his skis.

Seaman's family built the hut to provide shelter to future users of the park, in order to prevent recurrence of a similar tragedy.
