River Of Life

Karawari river, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea

The Karawari river is marked by abundant birdlife, impressive architecture of haus tambarans, beautiful stilt villages, long canoes, misty dawns and spectacular sunsets that make this an unforgettable place. The Karawari river runs into the Korosameri and then into the Sepik. The Sepik and its tributaries are one of the most famous features of PNG, not just because of the fine art produced in the area but because it has captured the collective imagination of adventure travellers. Home to isolated people, it represents to outsiders something quintessentially primeval and an embodiment of the idea of a densely populated river region.
