Wurrumbu Creek, Daintree Rainforest National Park, Queensland, Australia

It had been raining most of the night prior and the resultant humidity was a subtle reminder that I was indeed in the wet tropics. Surrounded by lush vegetation and the flow of Wurrumbu creek, I was able to take the time to simply enjoy this small part of the Daintree. Experiencing this location brought together so many elements of the Daintree rainforest.

Nestled in the World Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest, the area around Wurrumbu Creek contains the oldest, continuously surviving rainforest on earth. Just one hectare of the 120,000 hectare forest can contain over 30,000 species of plants and animals. Considered by many to be the evolutionary cradle for much of Australia’s plant and wildlife species, the forest has managed to survive for over 135 million years. With the right protection, it is expected to thrive for generations to come.
