Mustang

P-51 Mustang, Royal New Zealand Air Force colours

The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang was an American long-range single-seat World War II fighter aircraft. The Mustang first flew in Royal Air Force (RAF) service. The P-51 saw service with Allied air forces in Europe and also saw limited service against the Japanese in the Pacific War. It began the Korean War as the United Nations' main fighter, but was superseded by jet fighters early in the conflict. This image is of a restored P-51 Mustang, painted in Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) markings. The RNZAF operated 30 of these aircraft before retirement.
