DAYS GONE BY

Country Farm, Burra, South Australia, Australia

Country South Australia is littered with abandoned old farmhouses such as this. They provide a strong reminder of pioneering days gone by. This derelict farm cottage near the town of Burra, in South Australia, was made famous after a photograph of it was used as the cover for the Australian rock band Midnight Oil's album ‘Diesel and Dust’ in the 1980s. Like many other ruins in the area, I'm sure this old farmhouse has its own special story to tell about its past. With no markings as to its history, I stood there imagining the original inhabitants looking out on the land before them from the front door and really wanted to capture this connection to the past. As the sun went down the area was lit up by beautiful golden light, truly conveying a classic rural scene that for me represents much about the whole region and its history.
