Capturing this sunset image of Blue Lake frozen over and covered in snow during the height of winter required camping out overnight on the snow nearby. On this evening I was presented with stunning colours after sunset. As the sky darkened the last light lit up the frozen Blue Lake and the snow drifts along main range. This last light also reflecting off the low clouds created a magical winter scene amongst the glacial landscape.
Blue Lake is one of only four cirque lakes found on the Australian mainland. A cirque lake is a deep lake formed by the head of a glacier. Blue Lake was formed when glaciers flowing from the Great Dividing Range converged and carved out a basin in the granite bedrock. Its valley contains the best developed glacial features in the Kosciuszko National Park alpine area of New South Wales. Blue Lake's surface is entirely open water and is frozen for about four months of the year; overflowing in spring with the melting of the snow. Its catchment provides habitat for a number of species that have been listed as threatened and a number of threatened plant and invertebrate species that are restricted to alpine areas are found here.

These are printed on professional grade metallic photographic paper, using archival inks. It is then mounted on the back of an acrylic (plexiglass) block. It is finished with diamond polishing, buffing and a final hand polish. Since they are free-standing, no hanging system is required.
