Port Douglas, Queensland, Australia
This big white shed stands out on the sea with the natural backdrop of the Daintree rainforest and swaying palm trees. With its whitewashed walls and stunning views of the inlet, the Sugar Wharf is a much loved local landmark and is a popular place for weddings and events.
Built in 1905, the Sugar Wharf is an iconic structure located on the waterfront of Port Douglas’ Dickson Inlet overlooking the Coral Sea and the Daintree Mountains. It was constructed by the Douglas Shire Council to load sugar for export but when the first road to Cairns was built in 1958, boats ceased to be used to ship sugar. In 1992 it was listed in the Queensland heritage register as a place of cultural heritage.
