Ramshead Range, Kosciuszko National Park, New South Wales, Australia
The Ramshead Range extends along a significant portion of the Snowy Mountains. It stretches from near Lake Jindabyne to South Ramshead, marking the Northern Range that forms the Thredbo Valley. The range is generally covered in snow from June through to October and is covered in large parts by snow gum trees. However, during bushfires in 2003 vast swathes of these snowgums were burnt across the range, leaving few remaining trees untouched by fire. Therefore it is special when you find patches of snow gums like this that remain alive and unburnt. They stand as testament to this hardy eucalypt's ability to survive in such challenging alpine environments.
