Murray River, Murray River National Park, South Australia, Australia

Sitting on the banks of the Murray River I was overcome with a sense of peace and tranquility and the magic of this once mighty river. The smooth waters of the river created glass like reflections and the calm was only interrupted with swimming fish, croaking frogs and an endless array of birdlife. As the sun rose, the early morning light was cast on the river red gums, topping off of a very calming morning for me. I hope this image conveys a sense of what I felt by the banks of the Murray that morning.

The mighty Murray River is Australia's longest river. At 2,375 kilometres in length, the Murray rises in the Australian Alps, draining the western side of Australia's highest mountain. For most of its length, it meanders across Australia's inland plains, forming the border between New South Wales and Victoria as it flows to the northwest before turning south for its final 500 kilometres or so through South Australia, reaching the ocean at Lake Alexandrina.
