Fog on the High Plains

Snow Gum, Bogong High Plains, Alpine National Park, Victoria, Australia

The Bogong High Plains are a section of the Alpine National Park in the Australian state of Victoria, situated south of Mount Bogong. This area forms part of Australia's Great Dividing Range and in winter is one of the largest snow covered areas in Australia. At all times of the year, the weather can change quickly on the High Plains and this day was no different. Earlier in the day I had left the Victorian township of Bright with temperatures well above 30 degrees celsius. By the time I reached the Bogong High plains a changing weather system brought significantly cooler temperatures and low fog at the higher altitudes. With this snow gum surrounded by fog and some summer wildflowers amongst the low heath, it offered a great contrast to what many imagine of this area in the summer months.
