Alpine Shire, Victoria, Australia
Due to the mostly hot, dry summer climate, bushfires in Australia occur frequently, particularly in the well forested areas of the Australian Alps. In recent times, the Victorian Alps have been subjected to major bushfire events and have been almost entirely burnt through by fires on a number of occasions. Most notably Black Thursday in 1851, Black Friday in 1939, in 2003 and again in the summer of 2006/7.
I visited the Victorian Alps shortly after the fires in 2006 and 2007 and found this collection of singed leaves and bark covering the ground, making for an interesting abstract scene.
