Young and Old

Blue Mountains, New South Wales, Australia

As I stood in the valley under the rock, the setting sun lit up the cliffs around me. It was the perfect backdrop to the trees of various ages before me.

The Blue Mountains are a stunning contrast of young and old. A place of varying ancient landforms including deep canyons, tall waterfalls and sandstone structures. Geomorphologically speaking, it has it all: uplifts, igneous activity, erosion, sedimentary deposition and metamorphic changes. These combine to produce an amazing landscape that has resulted in its World Heritage Listing.
