Fraser Island (K'gari), Queensland, Australia

As the tide came in and the sun set, this Grey Mangrove stood alone. Against the backdrop of a calm summer evening it created a tranquil way to finish a stunning day on Fraser Island.

These mangrove trees grow in a challenging environment yet have adapted to thrive, displaying amazing resilience. Conditions such as rapidly varying salt concentration, low oxygen and complete immersion from tides have all been overcome by these plants.
