Buttress Root

Buttress root, Daintree National Park, Queensland, Australia

The World Heritage-listed Daintree National Park is a pristine region. It is a wilderness dream of lush tropical rainforests, deserted white beaches, sleepy rivers and breathtaking natural beauty preserved for future generations. Throughout the rainforests in the park, large buttress roots are a clearly recognisable feature. I captured this image immediately following rain, and felt that the vertical composition lent itself to capturing one such buttress root which was surrounded by decaying leaves and rainforest debris.
