Katherine Gorge, Nitmiluk National Park, Northern Territory, Australia
Standing above Katherine Gorge, the river below emerged from the sandstone plateau around me. I was presented with a stunning sunrise as the clouds before me lit up. Getting up well before sunrise to arrive at locations like this and then witness such majestic scenes, reminds me of what a precious privilege it is to be alive.
It is easy to be drawn to the majestic beauty and sheer size of the spectacular Katherine Gorge and surrounding national park. Located on the lands of the Jawoyn people, rock art sites dot the park and dreaming stories bring the silent gorge walls to life. You can experience the splendour of Nitmiluk Gorge from the serenity of the river, exploring the rocky escarpment riverbanks and cooling off on sandy beaches.
