Anbangbang Billabong and Burrungkuy (Nourlangie) Rock, Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory, Australia
Nourlangie Rock created a spectacular backdrop to the serenity of Anbangbang Billabong late on this day. However, having stumbled upon a large crocodile earlier in the day only a short distance from here, I was acutely paranoid about the presence of crocodiles. As I took this photo, my wife was beside me on constant lookout.
Savanna woodlands and paperbark forest surround this billabong, with the world heritage listed area containing extensive Kakadu birdlife, Aboriginal art galleries, and rugged escarpment. Despite the presence of crocodiles, Anbangbang Billabong is an incredible part of Kakadu, relaxing and inspiring at any time of the day.
