Shapes Of Winter

Alpine National Park, Victoria, Australia

While much of the alpine vegetation is buried by snow during the depths of winter, when the snow cover is thinner it's possible to see subtle shapes in the snow from plants that lie beneath. I am always drawn to these shapes and the interplay of light and shadow, but finding a simple composition I like often alludes me. At this frozen creek however, I found what I had been seeking. This one tuft of grass protruded from amongst nearby gentle mounds of snow and the frozen snow covered water. With soft lighting, the simple shapes created a quiet winter scene.
